OFFICIAL: Supercoppa Italiana set for 22–23 December — Simonelli confirms it won’t be in Saudi Arabia

New confirmation has arrived on the Supercoppa timetable, and it comes straight from the top.
In an interview on Radio 1’s Radio Anch’Io Sport, Lega Serie A president Ezio Simonelli confirmed the Supercoppa will be played on 22 or 23 December, with the final decision expected to be taken in a Lega council. Crucially, Simonelli also stated the match will not be hosted in Saudi Arabia, explaining that there is no window available there due to the Asian Games and that current war-related issues rule out “that area” for obvious reasons.
Simonelli added that the league expects to decide the venue as well, while SportMediaset notes the Supercoppa will be shown exclusively by Mediaset.
Inter–Lazio next? And what format?
While Simonelli’s comments confirm the dates and the “not Saudi” decision, attention now turns to the sporting picture — and to the format.
Reports in Italy indicate the Supercoppa is expected to return to the traditional one-off final (scrapping the Final Four), with Inter set to face Lazio.
If confirmed, it would mean a straightforward, high-stakes scenario: one match for a trophy, in late December, with Inter looking to add another piece of silverware and set the tone for the second half of the season.
For now, the headline is clear: the date window is set, Saudi Arabia is off the table, and the venue decision is next.
