Palestra Stalemate and Jones' change of heart

The Atalanta Wall

Just when it seemed Marco Palestra was destined for the San Siro, the Bergamo "bottega" has raised the stakes to an astronomical level. According to La Repubblica, Atalanta is now valuing their star wing-back at a staggering €60 million. Even with a potential "discount" to €54 million plus bonuses, the figures have sent shockwaves through the market. While Palestra has reportedly reached an economic agreement with Manchester City, even the English champions are balking at Atalanta's demands. Inter has not officially pulled the plug, but the economic obstacle is looking increasingly insurmountable.

Jones Stays Put, Atta Pricey

The news from England is equally frustrating for the Nerazzurri faithful. The pursuit of Curtis Jones appears to have reached a dead end. Following the appointment of Andoni Iraola as Liverpool's new technical leader, Jones has performed a dramatic U-turn. He is now intent on fighting for his place at Anfield, dealing a blow to Chivu’s plans for a midfield overhaul. Furthermore, while Inter inquired about Arthur Atta during discussions for Oumar Solet, Udinese has slapped a €35 million price tag on the youngster, who is also attracting heavy interest from the Premier League.

The Derby d'Italia Twist

With primary targets becoming overpriced or unavailable, Marotta and Ausilio are shifting their gaze toward a familiar rival. Andrea Cambiaso has emerged as the premier alternative for the right flank. The Juventus wing-back offers the versatility Chivu craves—the ability to play on both sides with tactical intelligence and Serie A experience. Because he would cost significantly less than Palestra, Inter is seriously studying the feasibility of a deal that could involve swap discussions for players liked by Luciano Spalletti, such as Davide Frattesi or Carlos Augusto.

The ForzaIM Take

We’ve seen this movie before—Atalanta tries to milk every last cent until the deal collapses. If they want €60M for a kid with one good season, let them keep him. Pivot to Cambiaso immediately. He’s proven, he’s versatile, and taking one of Juve’s best assets would be a delicious bit of Mercato revenge. As for Curtis Jones, if he’d rather sit on the bench for Iraola than win titles with us, that’s his loss.

Would you trade Davide Frattesi to Juventus if it meant bringing Andrea Cambiaso to the San Siro?
