Pastorello opens door to De Vrij extension — but admits exploring options outside Italy

Inter could yet keep Stefan de Vrij beyond his current deal — but the situation is not being treated as a simple, automatic renewal.
In remarks attributed to Sky Sport, De Vrij’s agent Federico Pastorello explained that talks could move forward and that the Dutch defender is among the experienced players Inter may consider for an extension.
“I also believe talks can move forward… he seems like a player to whom Inter could offer an extension,” Pastorello said, while adding important context about the player’s personal situation after a long spell in Italian football.
Pastorello also stressed that De Vrij has been in Italy for a significant period — “practically Italian at this point,” as he put it — but that the defender has asked his camp to evaluate opportunities beyond Serie A.
“The idea of doing something outside of Italy is something he has pushed me to explore,” Pastorello said, while still underlining the emotional connection to Inter: the club is “in his heart,” and the one that “molded him into the player he is today.”
That balance — attachment to Inter but openness to a new chapter — mirrors Pastorello’s previous public stance that, while there may be approaches from abroad, the player has strongly expressed a desire to stay at Inter and in Italy in the short term. Reports indicate that De Vrij is ready to accept a salary reduction to extend for one more year.
What it means for Inter
From Inter’s perspective, the message is clear:
An extension is possible if the club decides De Vrij remains part of the sporting plan.
The agent is doing his job by sounding out the market, especially with multiple expiring-contract situations typically overlapping in the same window.
Timing and terms matter — Inter can keep control by moving early, or risk a scenario where external options become more concrete.
What to watch next
For fans tracking the story, the next “tells” are straightforward:
whether Inter open formal talks / present a proposal,
whether De Vrij’s camp receive concrete interest from outside Italy,
and whether the club’s defensive planning pushes them toward continuity or refresh.
