The Asllani Audit: Problems in Turin, Growth in Istanbul

The Nomad Returns
Kristjan Asllani is a man at a crossroad. After a season that saw him bounce from a frustrating stint at Torino to a revival in Turkey, the Albanian midfielder has finally spoken about the hurdles he faced. Speaking to the Albanian Football Federation (AFHF) and reported by FCInter1908, Asllani was surprisingly candid: "I had some problems in Turin," he admitted, referring to a spell where tactical friction saw him marginalized. However, his subsequent move to Besiktas proved to be the "important experience" he needed to rediscover his rhythm.
The stats support his claim. While he struggled for minutes in Serie A earlier in the year, he became a fixture in the Besiktas lineup, playing every match despite not always starting. "It was good for me to change country," Asllani noted, signaling that the pressure of the Bosphorus has matured a player who was often seen as "too green" for Inzaghi's high-stakes midfield. Now, with his loan expired and his future "to be seen," he returns to Milano a different player than the one who left.
The Calhanoglu Vacuum
The timing of Asllani’s return couldn't be more critical. With Hakan Calhanoglu’s future increasingly linked to a mega-move to Fenerbahce, Inter is staring at a void in the regista position. Asllani has long been groomed as Hakan's natural heir, but his consistency has always been the question mark. His time in Turkey has presumably given him a front-row seat to the type of football Calhanoglu dominated, and the "problems" he faced at Torino likely served as a harsh lesson in the tactical rigidity required in Italy.
Under the new Oaktree directive, Inter is prioritize internal development and youthful assets over expensive external stop-gaps. This puts Asllani in a "sink or swim" position. He is no longer the prospect we bought from Empoli; he is a 24-year-old international who has played in the pressure cookers of both Turin and Istanbul. If the Calhanoglu exit materializes, the keys to the Nerazzurri midfield are sitting right there on the table for him to fight for.
The ForzaIM Take
We’ve been patient with Kristjan, but the time for "learning" is over. His admission of problems at Torino is honest, but at Inter, there is no room for "problems"—only performance. He has the technical grace, but he needs the grit. If he can translate that Besiktas "important experience" into a starting-caliber presence at San Siro, he saves Inter €40M in the market. If not, his return will just be a pit stop before a permanent sale.
Do you believe Asllani has matured enough to warrant a place in the team?
