Zieliński: “Money almost pulled me away from Italy — but I stayed, and now I’m part of a great club”

Piotr Zieliński has never been shy about the realities of modern football — and in his latest comments, the Inter midfielder offered a candid look at how close he came to walking away from Italy for money.
In an interview referenced in Prawda Futbolu, Zieliński reflected on “two or three moments” in his career when he could have left Italy, admitting that financial opportunities were tempting — but ultimately not enough to outweigh what he and his family had built.
“In my career, there were two or three moments when I could have left Italy, but I have always felt in my heart that my family and I are happy here. We lack nothing here.”
The fork in the road: money vs. ambition
Zieliński’s most striking admission is how close he came to choosing a different path — one driven primarily by finances.
He recalled that at one point the idea of moving away was real enough that plans were made, bags were practically packed, and then everything changed.
“For two days we thought: ‘Let’s go, let’s pack our bags,’ but then the plans changed.”
Crucially, he didn’t deny money played a role in the decision-making process. But he framed it as one factor — not the factor.
Why Inter became the next step
When his Napoli chapter ended, Zieliński decided to “raise the bar” and test himself at Inter, describing the move as tied to personal ambition and the desire for new challenges.
He pointed to the value of competing at the highest level in Europe — and the kind of experiences that come with it.
“I believe that in the end, this was the decisive factor: the desire to compete and experience something new. I had the opportunity to play in the Champions League final. If I had gone to Al-Ahli, I would never have had a similar experience.”
That line tells you everything about the motivation: elite competition still matters deeply to him — not just financially, but emotionally and professionally.
“I can still play at the top level for 4–5 years”
Zieliński also sounded confident about his longevity, saying he believes he can remain at the top level for another four to five years.
And he wrapped the story with a simple conclusion about where he landed:
“In the end, my family and I decided that the best thing was to continue playing in Europe. I became part of a great club.”
ForzaIM take
These quotes feel like more than a personal reflection — they’re a statement of intent. Zieliński is positioning his Inter move as an ambition-led decision: choosing Europe’s biggest stage, chasing trophies, and embracing a fresh challenge.
For Inter, it’s encouraging: a player who could have cashed out instead chose the pressure, expectations, and opportunity that come with wearing the Nerazzurri shirt.
